This is the stairway leading to the watch room. The railings are covered in protective nets to avoid people falling through them should they slip and fall on the stairs.

I've taken a picture like this before, at several different places.

This shows how steep the ladder at Kinnaird Head was:
Kinnaird Head - Brass ladder by michael-brown

The stranger ways I've seen of getting to the lantern were at Plymouth Hoe (The old Eddystone tower) and also at Start Point.
In the old Eddystone light, wooden ladders in the center of the room, provided access between each floor.
At Start Point, two of the steep ladders are positioned on an elevated platform, meaning you have to climb one and then turn your back to climb the other. It's quite unusual.
