Description

All the girls have gone to a Kim Wilde Concert; except for Stephanie Franklin; who decided to remain behind to play soccer with the Canterbury Bros. Meanwhile, Admiral Jervis receives a call from the Port Jackson (Jarvis Town Harbour) Reserve Fleet; with news that equipment is disappearing from the mothballed ships at an alarming rate. Jervis calls Stephanie and Denison to the Presidential Palace; he asks Stephanie to fly him to the mothball fleet; and he asks Denison to round up an elite team to assist in the pilfering investigation and the preventive action. Stephanie flies the helicopter to the mothball fleet; where she is told to land on the flight deck of a mothballed aircraft carrier; which according to security; is the next target for the hooligans; since all the ships were hit a row; starting with the first vessel from the back. Stephanie is distraught when she sees that the carrier she has to land on is the very same aircraft carrier she served on as a bridge officer during the Second Great War...The District 8 Essex Class Aircraft Carrier USS Oriskany. The ship was brought to the reserve fleet after being replaced by the Lake Erie Class Aircraft Carrier; and because her armour makes breaking the ship up for scrap and scuttling her as a reef virtually impossible; there was no choice but to place her in reserve. The armour also keeps the ship's hull in perfect condition; but the interior would probably be a bit worse for wear. As Stephanie enters the bridge; she gets flashbacks of her time on board during the war; and tears begin to run down her face as she sees in what bad condition the bridge is in; and the fact that all the equipment is still on board; and in working order, all except the engines. She then starts to cry; realizing that her home during the Pacific Theater of the Second Great War was forgotten about in a back wharf behind the harbour. Denison and Jervis did their best to comfort her.  The ghost of an old hammerhead crane can be seen behind the exhaust funnel of a mothballed heavy cruiser.
